Question about state of necromancer class
Hello everybody. Im long reader but it is my first post here . I came back to GW after couple of months. Was playing warrior before but now i started necro.
Since i didnt have ocassion to play necro neither in end game pve nor in pvp (only 12 lvl) i want to ask you what's your opinion about state of necromancer class. Is it viable class for end game pve(so far im having fun) and if my effort to prepare this toon for pvp makes sense?
Thanks for answers

Go ahead and try it out. Since you weren't spoiled since Prophesies by having 30+ minions at a time steam-rolling anything in your way, or having gobs and gobs of Energy available whenever you wanted, your experience will be a fresh, less-unbiased-than-most viewpoint of how the current state of Necromancers compare to Warriors in gameplay experience.
(Personally, I was so jaded and upset by the initial nerfs that I never played a Necro ever again except as Heroes and Henchies. But I'm emo like that. XD)

You ask is necro viable class to high-end pve? Absolutely. Necros just own PvE. If you play necro, you are not going to see as big yellow numbers as playing warrior, but you are going to see LOTS and LOTS of those numbers. I love playing necro, it's my main too. It's good at PvP too, but very very very different class there.

Necromancers are still in powerful state (not as much as they were though, according to the old tales), in PvE at least. I don't PvP.
Elite areas and end-of-game areas/missions, Necromancers have a fun time. Granted everything depends on your ability to play, and what build you're using for the enemy you're facing, but energy shan't be an issue. Signet of Lost Souls (a Nightfall skill) can cover you in combat should energy drop, and you've fulfilled the 'three times every fifteen seconds' SR rule.
Glad to see you've joined the ranks of the Necro players. May you have as much fun with it as we have, and spoil your Necro to no end. (Seriously, check out the 'Post your Necromancer' thread, there's love. So much love.)

Big thanks for honset answers. I started playing necros because their playstyle seems to be more intersting than warriors (hoping wont be crucified by warriors crowd . I can feel now I have more options and doing ol missions from another perspective is very cool.

^Well, Necro gives you a different view of the game. It generally forces you to watch and influence the big picture rather than just focusing on the what's directly opposing you.
I think there's no better class for PVE than Necro. The bigger the mob - the bigger your scope of power. In PVP, however, you're much more restricted.
Check the new sticky for some good info on builds.

Speaking about pvp (and for sake of discussion lets talk about organized pvp) what is necro's role. I can see necros as a all around guys making lives of monks miserable. Correct my vison with your experiences

mkuczara, Necros are top in PvE, and a flop in PvP. There their enchantment removal skills are wanted, but you do not need a primary necro for that. They also have anti-physical attacker hexes, but they do not work out nearly as good as in PvE.
Necros have many options to dominate in PvE due to the many corpses (powering soul reaping, giving tons of energy) and the mass hexes. Spiteful Spirit, Minions, Orders... just read the Necro guide, there is also the build now known as "Sabway", 3 Necros (SS,MM+Necro/Rit Healer) + you and some henchman that really shows how powerful they can be.
But in PvP?
The roles are very limited. In Alliance Battles you see sometimes Necros being Minion Masters, but this is not true for GvG. You also see them as Soul Reaping Powered Healers or in specialized Bloodspike builds in HA, or Icy Veins Spike.
Anti-Monk? NO! Which spells/skills should help them versus monks. Some enchantment removal, but that was it and it is usually not worth to bring a Necro just for that. Necros are anti-physical, anti-warrior. You can also add moderate degen, but then, Rangers can do that and more. Hex
I love to play a Necro, but for PvP I prefer to play other classes. If you see a Necro in GvG, it is usually one or mostly none. If you want to PvP, a Necro is not really a good choice.

Welcome to necromancy =].
I'm gonna repeat some of what has already been stated.
In PvP necros are not top notch imo. Anything that is usually needed from a necro line can be brought as a secondary class skill. Usually enchantment removal. Primary necros fill niche roles mostly in pvp. Some examples are: N/Rt Restoration healers using Soul Reaping to keep energy up, N/E Tainted Flesh necro with Corpse control skills and Wards(or other secondary if other skills needed), N/x in hex pressure builds usually running Rising Bile, Putrid Bile or melee shutdown hexes for example. Honestly not a lot of high end pvp use for a necro primary.
PvE on the other hand is cake for necromancers. High end pve tends to enjoy two builds quite a bit. The Spiteful Spirit Curses necro is still a great build to play. A Blood is Power support build is also well loved in pve and while I do still play it too, it is a bit on the dull side imo.
Necros are very versatile. As you progress, try out different variations and builds yourself. There are many ways to be helpful to your team.
GL and HF.

Well, let's put it like this
- N/Me: access to the most powerful Hexes
- Hex removal = scarce
/win
To answer more directly: no. Any class can kill Sins. But as a Sin, SS, maybe IP, RH (just to name something) means I'm effectively disabled until someone else bothers to remove those Hexes from me.
Weeeeiiiird question, btw.

Necromancers are great in PvE but are rarely ever used in PvP.
The only time anyone uses Necros in PvP is if they are running hero-way or some other form of random gimmick. The reason for this is because the necromancer offers very little shutdown which is what being a mid-liner is all about. Before anyone rages at me about how necros can hex warriors to prevent damage, let me inform you about the fairly common skill used by mesmers in the current meta called [skill=text]Hex Eater Vortex[/skill]. This skill will ruin you if you bring an anti-melee hexer which is why necros ARE NOT in any PvP meta.
Necros are GREAT in PvE however. I would say they are the best class in pve because they have so much to offer. They do great AoE damage with Spiteful Spirit, Make minions which I would say is the most valuable thing you can have in any PvE quest or mission, and they can even serve as primary healers by using the monk or rit secondary. The reason for this is because they can use their primary attribute, soul reaping, to gain limitless energy to fund the high-end expensive heal skills.
My verdict is that a Role Playing Necromancer is well worth your time to create. Have fun with it!

In short yes necro is a fun class. But let's not get to the QQ threads on how SR even though they had the most retardedly stupid best energy management and still do (now comparable to Critical Strikes)
For runes and insignias I would have a different headpieces like 1 for blood and another for curse and etc. Most use the radiant insignia I think.
